Rasmentalism, The Dumplings, tęskno, Mała Orkiestra Dancingowa, Laboratorium Pieśni, Enablers and BNNT join the list of artists who will perform in Krakow on 22 June during this year’s Wianki – Music Festival. The event will take place for the sixth time in a formula inspired by the French event “Fête de la Musique”.

This year’s Wianki will host leading representatives of various musical genres and the new artists who join the previously announced line-up perfectly fit into this idea. On the Hard Rock Cafe stage located at the Main Market Square, the previously announced Natalia Nykiel, Miuosh and the Flirtini duo are joined by The Dumplings, an electropop band created by Justyna Święs and Kuba Karaś. The Dumplings entered the music scene with unprecedented impetus in 2014, and their subsequent albums only confirm that their success was not a coincidence. One of the most important rap bands in Poland, Rasmentalism, which will soon release the successor to the well-received album Tango from 2018, will also be playing on the Main Market Square.

The Coca-Cola stage, located at the foot of the Wawel Castle at ul. Powiśle, will host the previously announced Fisz Emade Tworzywo, Barbara Wrońska, Misia Furtak and Mela Koteluk. This set is joined by the duo tęskno, i.e. the project of singer Joanna Longić and composer and pianist Hania Rani. Their debut album collected excellent reviews on most annual summaries of the best albums, and the duo gained the status of one of the most interesting projects on the Polish music scene.

This year’s Wianki will feature the Alternative Stage located at Nowy Square in the heart of the Kazimierz district and characterised by experimental aspect. It will host, among others, the Americans from Enablers – a group that stands out on the rock mainstream by combining spoken word, heavy sounds and sound improvisations. They will play Wianki just after the premiere of their latest album, Zones, which is planned for 14 June.

BNNT, an uncompromising duo created by the sound artist Konrad Smoleński, who plays a specially constructed … bomb and drummer Daniel Szwed will also perform at the Nowy Square. The band, the activity of which can be located somewhere between music, visual arts, theatre and publishing, became famous, among others, by “soundbombing”, or sound attacks carried out from the platform of a suddenly appearing bus, confronting recipients with unexpected content. The third band that will perform on the Alternative Stage will be Laboratorium Pieśni. This collective form Tri-City arranges traditional polyphonic songs: Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Belarusian, Serbian, Albanian, Bosnian and Polish, reaching also for Georgian, Scandinavian or Occitan songs. The list of the recognized artists with whom the memebr of collective collaborated, includes Kayah, Atanas Valkov or L.U.C. The line-up of the Alternative Stage is closed by Resina. It is a solo project of Karolina Rec, a composer and cellist known for her cooperation with a long list of various artists: from Maciej Cieślak through Hubert Zemler to Zamilska. Since 2016, however, she has been following her own artistic path, focusing on the solo project. On Wianki, Rec will play just after the premiere of the EP with remixes of her recordings, which were performed by Lotic, Ben Frost and Ian William Craig, among others.

The district of Kazimierz will also be place of in a dancing party inaugurating the Jewish Culture Festival in the tent located at the corner of ul. Józefa and ul. Wąska. This is where the Mała Orkiestra Dancingowa will play, presenting early Polish pop – reconstructing the sounds hidden under the noise of an old record without nostalgia. A twelve-member band led by of Noam Zylberberg performs the music of the interwar period in the historic spirit. Using the original recordings, the orchestra prepares the arrangements of the songs in the form in which they were composed and performs them, remaining faithful to the old style.
